Within conjunctive tissue, an interchange of liquids at interstitial level takes place. The water, fat and toxins exert pressure over the tissue and trigger the apparition of cellulite. The purpose of manual lymphatic drainage is to eliminate the stagnation of these elements in a normal and non-invasive way.

Manual lymphatic drainage is a style of massage that acts directly over the lymphatic system. This system is in charge of the elimination of toxins in the body and of keeping the immune system in good working order. The effect of these massages takes place at the level of the skin since it stimulates circulation. Additionally, they combat cellulite preventing liquid retention.

Manual lymphatic drainage is a high quality therapy used to eliminate cellulite due to the fact that it not only provides the benefits of traditional massages, it also eliminates toxins and increases the immune response of the body. Also, it is especially recommendable when preparing tissues before and after esthetic surgery.

What Can I Expect

Whenever it comes to cosmetic treatment, you need to keep in mind that no procedure will ever provide an ‘ideal’ aspect to your body. The aim of this kind of procedure is to achieve an improvement and enhance your appearance. This can help you boost your self-confidence and make you feel better about yourself, while keeping realistic expectations. This is one of the core values we have here at HCR; we want our clients to be completely satisfied with the results of their treatment and to heighten their self-assurance.

Procedure Planning

Before any type of procedure is performed, patients are strongly advised to have a detailed discussion with their doctor. By doing so, both parties have the opportunity to contribute in the whole process and to increase the client’s level of satisfaction.

The Procedure

The technique of manual lymphatic drainage consists in channeling the excessively accumulated liquids in the treated area towards lymphatic territories in good health. In this way, they will be successfully eliminated. This objective is obtained through massages. A drainage session takes place more or less in the following way:

  1. The preparation of the patient is very important; he/she will be aided in relaxing in a tranquil and comfortable environment.
  2. Before the massages can begin, your specialist will diagnose the different areas of lymphatic blockage that require draining.
  3. When the time comes for the massages, two movements are very important.

First, an evacuation movement must be performed; the point of this initial massage is to remove the excessive liquid from the affected area and channel it towards the pre-collector and collector capillaries. The second movement of the massages focuses in fomenting the reabsorption of the excess liquids into these capillaries.

After The Treatment

Due to the drainage provoked by these massages, the elimination of toxins in the body leads to an increase in urination. Additionally, you may experience an increase in sensitivity on a muscular and dermal level due to the type of massages that are applied.

You must keep a healthy intake of food, a constant routine of exercise and drink lots of water; this is to ensure that all the toxins are eliminated successfully.

Risks

As with any type of cosmetic treatment, complications are unusual but they sometimes do happen. However, they are usually minor and can be reduced by following your doctor’s directions precisely before and after the procedure.

Edward Patterson

Edward Patterson wasn’t always the fit, healthy guy he is now. After years spent fighting the battle of the bulge, brought on he admits by a bad attitude to food and exercise, he finally saw the light. The beckoning light by the side of those pearly white gates that is. A close up encounter with heart disease and diabetes was enough to make him decide it was time to stop simply writing about health and fitness, and start practicing all the things he was writing about.
