Cosmetic Surgery Procedures in Costa Rica

Thermage Treatment

Thermage is the only non-invasive procedure that helps tighten and contour your skin in a single treatment. It allows you to look years younger without the need for any surgery, injections and little to no downtime.

As you age, your skin’s collagen and elastin (proteins that keep your skin tight) break down faster than your body can rebuild them. Therefore, thermage treatment stimulates your body’s natural renewal of collagen, which creates subtle, natural looking results on and off the face. It does so by sending radio waves down to heat the deeper layers of your skin, causing new collagen to form. At first, there will be little noticeable change but weeks to months later the improvements will begin to show. It will leave you with tighter smoother skin, softened wrinkles and lines and an overall younger looking appearance.

What Can I Expect

Whenever it comes to cosmetic treatment, you need to keep in mind that no procedure will ever provide an ‘ideal’ aspect to your body. The aim of this kind of procedure is to achieve an improvement and enhance your appearance. This can help you boost your self-confidence and make you feel better about yourself, while keeping realistic expectations. This is one of the core values we have here at HCR; we want our clients to be completely satisfied with the results of their treatment and to heighten their self-assurance.

Procedure Planning

Before any type of procedure is performed, patients are strongly advised to have a detailed discussion with their doctor. By doing so, both parties have the opportunity to contribute in the whole process and to increase the client’s level of satisfaction.

Thermage treatment is most ideal for people in mid-to-late 30s or older people with just mild photo-aging or wrinkled skin. Patients who wish to see immediate, drastic results are not recommended to take the treatment since it has subtle before and after differences.

The Procedure

During the procedure, your specialist will use a device known as ThermaCool; this tightens and lifts the skin in order to smooth out wrinkles and restore facial contours. The ThermaCool device uses the ThermaTip, which delivers radiofrequency energy to the skin. Your doctor will use this to control the amount of radiofrequency being delivered, balancing your comfort and obtaining optimal results.

When the ThermaTip touches the skin, it heats a large volume of collagen in the deeper layers of the skin and its underlying tissue while at the same time cooling the outer layer and protecting it. This causes deep structures in the skin to immediately tighten. Over time, the skin will tighten further, and result in healthy, smooth looking skin.

The Thermage session can take anywhere from a few minutes to an hour, depending on how large of an area needs to be treated.

After The Treatment

After thermage session, your skin should feel tighter and smoother. Additional tightening will occur over time and your new look will gradually occur over a 3 to 6 month period, maybe sooner. Keep in mind, however, that results vary from patient to patient.

The results of the Thermage procedure may last anywhere from two years or longer, a factor that also varies depending on the patient’s aging process. In order to maintain results, another Thermage session is needed. Otherwise, your face will revert to a pre-treatment appearance.

As with any type of cosmetic treatment, complications are unusual but they sometimes do happen. However, they are usually minor and can be reduced by following your doctor’s directions precisely before and after the procedure. Potential side effects of thermage treatment include swelling, redness, bumps and blisters. Nonetheless, keep in mind that these usually disappear in a few days or weeks.

Make sure to ask your doctor concerning any risks you might have to face when undertaking this procedure. However, you must keep in mind that our certified group of doctors works full-time to prevent such scenarios from happening; we value the health of our patients above anything else.
