Facelift Cost & Price Information

General Face Lift Cost and Price Factors:

The total cost for a face lift is made up of a number of different fees including:

  • Surgeon’s Fees
  • Location of the surgery: hospital, outpatient office, or a private practice office
  • Anesthesiologist and anesthesia
  • Any required pre-op and/or post-op testing such as blood work
  • Follow-up visits
  • Any surgical garments such as bandages, restrictive dressings, etc.

Other things that can affect the overall cost are the experience of the surgeon, the geographical location of the surgeon, the experience of the anesthesiologist and the amount and/or experience of any other staff that will be assisting with the surgery.

A face lift ranges in price up to $25,000.

This is broken down to approximately $1,000 to $1,300 going to anesthesia, $500 to $2,000 going towards the facility fee, and the remainder allotted to surgeon fees. The national average (board certified) surgeon fee in 2010 was $6,321.

Of course, this is just a ball park figure and will vary according to the complexity of the surgery and the number of procedures you’re having done.

Average Price per Surgery:

A face lift is a very broad term that includes many different types of surgeries. Below is a breakdown of the various types of face lift surgeries and their respective costs.

Standard Facelift Cost:

A standard face lift is the traditional procedure that lifts the entire face.

The average surgeon fee for this procedure in 2009 was $6,881 and in 2010 it was $6,321. The average cost for anesthesia was $1,000 to $1,300 and facility fees were $500 to $2,000.

Mid-Face Facelift Cost:

Mid-face lift surgery focuses on the roughly triangular area of the face that goes from the two corners of the eyes to the corners of the mouth.

The average surgeon fee for a mid-face lift is approximately $3,000, again depending on how many different types of procedures you’re having done and the skill of the surgeon.

Lower Facelift Cost:

This particular type of face lift concentrates on the bottom third of the face and the price of this procedure ranges from $4,000 to $10,000 with the average being around $7,000.

Mini or Weekend Face Lift Cost:

Focusing on very specific areas of the face, a weekend face lift is quick and a very inexpensive alternative to a standard facelift.

This surgery costs about $3,500 to $6,000. The average seems to be $5,000.

Chin Lift Cost:

A chin lift is a procedure that repairs the appearance of a droopy chin.

The average cost for this surgery is around $2,200 to $5,000.

Neck Lift Cost:

A neck lift can create more definition in the jaw line while removing the appearance of excess fat or “turkey neck” as it is often called.

This particular face lift procedure can have a price tag of $3,000 up to $15,000.

Brow Lift Cost:

Brow lift surgery is used to get rid of droopy eyebrows that may or may not impair vision.

Many times this procedure is done in conjunction with a forehead lift and the price reflects this.

The average cost can range from $5,000 to $7,000.

Forehead Lift Cost

A forehead lift is a surgery used to get rid of unwanted furrows, wrinkles and sagging skin on the forehead.

As mentioned above, this is typically done at the same time as a brow lift and the national average cost is $3,500 to $5,000.

Eyelid Lift Cost

Used to repair droopy eyes, puffiness, and “bags” under the eyes, eyelid lift surgery can correct the worn tired look that many people complain of. The price ranges from $4,000 to $5,500.

Extra Cost Factors

In addition to the above procedural costs, there may be extra cost involved for certain techniques such as short scar, MACS, thread, feather, SMAS, thermage or other more advanced, non-invasive surgery techniques.

Many of these techniques require extra surgical tools and a certain level of expertise by the physician, which is why, when these techniques are employed they can drive up the overall cost of the surgery.

It can’t be expressed enough that these figures are just estimates and will vary based on the factors discussed above.

However, the average price in the United States is fairly steady from state to state except for New York.

If you are having surgery in New York State, the cost is almost 50% higher than the face lift prices quoted above.

Conversely, if you opt to travel outside of the United States for plastic surgery, the cost will be significantly less due to the less stringent requirements placed on surgeons and the procedures.

Face Lift Payment Options, Insurance, and Financing

Unfortunately, many insurance companies will not cover the expense of elective cosmetic surgery; however, if it is medically necessary, then all or some of the cost may be covered.

For those procedures that are not covered by insurance, patients must find alternative methods to pay for their surgery.

Almost all plastic surgeons will accept cash, check and all major credit cards. But let’s face it, not many people have that much money laying around to pay for surgery.

Therefore, people have to get creative and it has become commonplace to obtain financing specifically for plastic surgery.

Many plastic surgery offices will offer one or more different financing plans that will not only cover the cost of the surgery but will also provide easy payment plans that will fit into any budget.

Unfortunately, not every financing plan is created equal and it is very important to do your homework to find the right plan for you.

It is also important to determine which plans your surgeon’s office will accept.

Let us help you to schedule a private meeting or just give you the opportunity to learn more about your cosmetic surgery options.
