Eyebrow Transplants

Eyebrows are often overlooked in preference to all the other aspects of your face and you do not realize how important they can be until you come in direct contact with eyebrow loss. This ailment can make a person extremely self-conscious about their appearance and hair transplantation can help you regain a full pair of eyebrows and help you recover your self-assurance.

There are many causes for eyebrow loss (such as: skin conditions, scarring from injuries or burns, hair loss from countless years of over-violent tweezing, etc.) but whatever the case, an eyebrow transplant may be the solution for you. As with other hair restoration technique, eyebrow transplants consist in taking hair (in the form of mini-grafts or flaps) from a donor region and placing them in the problem area.

Certified doctors have perfected eyebrow transplants down to an art form, since they are aware of the difficulties faced with this type of procedure. Differing from the scalp, the eyebrows are made up of only one-hair follicular units; therefore, if the source of hair is larger than this, the results will not be as pleasing as they should and will have to be split up carefully into individual follicles under the microscope.

The replication of the precise arch of the eyebrows is also a challenge, since the directions of the hairs changes constantly as it moves towards the temples. This is another reason why only a highly skilled surgical team will be able to perform such a surgery; luckily, we offer just that.

What Can I Expect

Whenever it comes to plastic surgery, you need to keep in mind that no procedure will ever provide an ‘ideal’ aspect to your face. The aim of cosmetic treatment is to achieve an improvement, to enhance your facial appearance. This can help you boost your self-confidence and make you feel better about yourself, while keeping realistic expectations. This is one of the core values we have; we want our clients to be completely satisfied with the results of their surgery and to heighten their self-assurance.

We recommend you discuss of eyebrow transplants are the ideal solution for you during your initial consultation with your doctor.

We offer on of the best teams of doctors in the industry and we are therefore aware of the different types of needs our diverse patients have. But no matter what you are looking for, we will provide you with the best service and aid you in every possible way in your pursuit to enhance your appearance.

Surgery Planning

Before any type of procedure is performed, patients are required to have a detailed discussion with their plastic surgeon. By doing so, both parties have the opportunity to contribute in the whole process and to increase the client’s level of satisfaction. The patient must discuss his/her expectations openly with their doctor, who will help determine what isn’t or what is possible to accomplish. All the different aspects of the surgery you are willing to undertake (the cost and recovery process) must be extremely clear to you.

You will need to inform you doctor of any allergies you might be prone to or if you have any serious medical conditions. Make sure to ask your doctor concerning the diverse details that the surgery entails. For example, you should know if you should stop taking certain medications (eg: aspirin) or if you will need to refrain from drinking or eating for a certain time period before your surgery.

With eyebrow transplants, it is recommended that you ask your surgeon to mark the exact place where the transplant will be located so that you can see exactly what the procedure entails and come to an agreement with your doctor concerning your needs. These markings should also be utilized to indicate the directional changes of the hair as it arches from the nose to the temples.

The Procedure

Once you have agreed on the eyebrow pattern which will be transplanted with your surgeon, he/she will use the initial markings as a base on which to work on, therefore, right before the operation, the markings will be set in place.

For this type of procedure, the anesthesia of choice is usually local. However, general anesthesia can be used as well, depending on the patient and surgeon preferences for safety and comfort.

The number of grafts needed to perform this surgery can vary greatly from 75 to as many as 350 per brow. Logically, women require a significant lesser number of grafts than men. The donor hair is usually extracted one follicle at a time from either your scalp or your leg. In women, the donor area usually consists of the region over the ears, since the hair is slightly finer here. In men with coarse eyebrows, the area adjacent to the occipital protuberance is usually used as a donor site, since the hair here is slightly thicker.

Once the graft is removed, it is then placed unto the eyebrow area and is transplanted micro surgically one to two hairs at a time, carefully matching the marking your have previously discussed with your surgeon. By transplanting hairs in such small numbers or using micro-grafts, the natural outline of the eyebrow can be achieved, obtaining the best results.

When the whole procedure is done, your doctor will then wrap your head with bandages.

Post-Op – After Surgery

You will experience some temporary swelling and bruising in your eyebrow and forehead area within the first few days after the surgery. Immediately after the procedure, it is important that you keep you head elevated while you sleep during the first few nights. You will most likely experience some numbness in the area, which might take at least three weeks to subside.

To control the swelling, you can use cold compresses which also help to alleviate and type of discomfort you may be feeling. However, this can also be controlled through prescribed medications. Head dressings will be taken off within the first few days and you will be permitted to wash your hair.

You will most likely have to return to your doctor after ten days to have your sutures removed and to ensure the appropriate healing of the recipient sites as well as the donor areas.

Remember that you will not be able to see the results of the procedure right away; keep in mind at all times that hair grows in cycles and it will take four to six months before new hair start to grow in your eyebrows. However, once it does begin to grow, you will be completely amazed at the improvement of your appearance.

Health Issues

As with any type of cosmetic surgery, complications are unusual, but they sometimes do happen. However, they are usually minor and can be reduced by precisely following your doctor’s directions before and after the procedure.

There is a slight risk of infection; however, this occurs in a small percentage of cases and is usually treated quickly with antibiotics. Scarring can also occur, but keloids happen only in pre-disposed patients; therefore, make sure you inform your doctor of any skin conditions you may have during your initial discussion.

In some cases, small cysts (2 to 3mm in diameter) are likely to appear in the recipient area where the mini-grafts have been placed. These usually vanish by themselves after a few days or can be treated immediately using several simple treatments.

Make sure to ask your surgeon concerning any risks you might have to face when undertaking this surgery. However, you must keep in mind that our certified group of doctors works full-time to prevent such scenarios from happening, since we value the health of our patients above anything else.

In order to keep the risks at a bare minimum, please make sure that you follow your surgeons instructions at all times.
