Acne Scars (IPL) Treatment in Costa Rica

When it comes to treating acne scars, Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is one of the best options available. It doesn’t matter if the scars are raised, depressed or flat, the light from this specialized system target the tiny blood vessels in the scars and makes them a lot less visible.

You must, however, keep in mind that skins with a deep brown or dark color may not be suitable for this kind of technique, since it can leave uneven pigmentation in these types of skins. The type of scars you have also plays an important role in determining is this treatment will be effective. Often, IPL treatment can be combined with the use of special skin-care cosmetics to achieve the best results. Your doctor will be able to give you more information on during you initial consultation.

During the treatment, your doctor will concentrate the life unto the area around the blemish or scar. The IPL will then penetrate the upper layer of the skin and it will effectively ‘burn’ off the tissue. One of the advantages of this treatment is that it stimulates new skin growth and thus, when the treated area heals, the scar will become much less visible than before.

After the procedure, you will find that your skin will be weepy and red, a condition which will probably persist for a few weeks. Keep in mind that you will need to wear sunblock during this period and for at least six months after the treatment. You will be able to see the complete results of the procedure around 10 to 12 months later, when your skin growth has been completely developed. Depending on your case, your doctor might recommend for you to repeat the procedure around 6 to 12 months afterwards.

Maria Jenkins

Maria Jenkins remembers waking up one day and thinking ‘today is the first day of the rest of my life’. The problem was, she realised she wasn’t particularly keen on the thought of where the rest of her life was heading. It was clearly time for a reassessment. She decided to sack her boss and turn what had been a hobby researching and writing about health and fitness for the local gym, into a full time freelance career.
